Banten Deputy Governor urges ratification of Private International Law Bill

Banten Deputy Governor Achmad Dimyati Natakusumah has emphasized the urgent need for the ratification of the Private International Law Bill (RUU HPI). The legislation aims to protect Indonesian citizens (WNI) in civil disputes involving foreign nationals, covering areas such as mixed marriages, inheritance, grants, divorce, and business matters.

Dimyati noted that Indonesian citizens often face legal disadvantages in international disputes where foreign laws may be perceived as more dominant than national law. He urged the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Special Committee to address these legal gaps to strengthen Indonesian jurisdiction.

Additionally, the Deputy Governor proposed reviewing the age limit for children of mixed marriages to choose their citizenship. He suggested extending the current 18-year-old threshold to approximately 25 or 26 years old, allowing them to complete higher education before making such a decision.
