Bantul authorities report 151 cases of violence against women and children
The Bantul Regency Government in Yogyakarta has handled 151 cases of violence against women and children as of late July 2026. According to data from the Department of Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning (DP3APPKB), the victims include 88 women and 63 children.
Tatik Windarti, Head of the Women's Empowerment and Protection Division at DP3APPKB, noted that the actual number of cases is likely higher because the current figures only reflect reported incidents. Trends indicate that psychological violence has become a dominant form of abuse. In 2024, 84 out of 209 cases were psychological, and in 2025, 76 out of 213 cases fell into this category. For the current period through July 2026, 47 of the 151 cases involve psychological violence.
Incidents tend to be more frequent in urban areas such as Banguntapan, Sewon, Kasihan, and the Bantul district. Officials warned that physical violence can manifest as threats that cause significant psychological pressure, leading to behavioral changes such as social withdrawal or self-harm.
