Bantul officials demand transparency at Parangtritis Beach following tourist complaints
The Bantul Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has called for increased transparency among vendors at Parangtritis Beach following viral complaints from tourists regarding undisclosed mat rental fees.
One tourist reported being charged a total of Rp100,000 after purchasing food and drinks, which included a Rp20,000 fee for using a mat. While the prices for food items were considered reasonable, the lack of prior communication regarding the mat rental caused significant dissatisfaction.
Local officials, including the head of the Parangtritis Village Youth Organization, clarified that while vendors did not engage in predatory pricing, they failed to inform visitors that sitting on a mat required a separate fee, even after purchasing food and beverages. Authorities are now coordinating with tourism offices and local police to ensure vendors provide clear signage and communicate service costs upfront to prevent future misunderstandings.
