Bantul prepares to relocate jeep routes to protect Gumuk Pasir

The Bantul Regency Tourism Office in Yogyakarta is preparing to relocate tourist jeep routes from the core zone to the western buffer zone of the Gumuk Pasir barchan sand dunes. This restoration initiative aims to protect the morphological integrity of the landscape from vehicle impact.

Local tourism operators have already mapped an alternative route that avoids the core area. This new path is designed to offer an agro-tourism experience, allowing visitors to pass through agricultural lands and purchase produce such as chili, shallots, eggplant, tomatoes, and cashew fruit directly from local farmers.

The relocation process involves clearing and mapping the new path. Officials expect the transition to begin in late October or early November 2026, pending formal approval from the Bantul Regent.
