Banyuwangi officials promote productive waqf and gender-responsive development

In Banyuwangi, local officials are pushing for more professional and productive management of waqf assets. During the inauguration of the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) Banyuwangi leadership, Vice Regent Mujiono emphasized that waqf should be managed transparently to support social development and economic empowerment. He noted that assets should extend beyond basic religious functions to include education, health, and social activities.

KH. Mustain, Chairman of BWI East Java, identified two priority programs: transforming waqf assets into productive entities that can self-finance their management, and developing cash waqf (waqf an-nuqud) as a community endowment fund. The new BWI Banyuwangi leadership is headed by Zain Ihsan.

Separately, Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani is strengthening gender-responsive development through economic empowerment and inclusive public services. During a field verification by the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection, Fiestiandani highlighted the 'Kanggo Riko' program, which has provided productive business tools to 6,398 female heads of households since 2021, totaling 11.41 billion IDR in assistance.
