Banyuwangi Port experiences 4.5 km traffic jam due to low tides
Severe traffic congestion has paralyzed routes leading to Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi, with vehicle queues, dominated by large logistics trucks, stretching up to 4.5 kilometers.
PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry Cabang Ketapang reported that the buildup was triggered by operational disruptions caused by drastic low tides. For two consecutive days, the receding water prevented ferry ships from docking at three Landing Craft Machine (LCM) piers, halting goods transport to Gilimanuk, Bali.
To mitigate the impact, ASDP is deploying larger capacity vessels, implementing an accelerated arrival-unloading-departure scheme, and reducing loading times at operational piers. Dredging operations have also been conducted at Gilimanuk Port to minimize the effects of extreme tidal changes.
