Banyuwangi vocational training prepares workers for Japan internships

Indonesian Deputy Minister of Manpower Afriansyah Noor has emphasized the necessity of technical competency and foreign language skills for Indonesian workers seeking employment or internships in Japan. Speaking at the Vocational Training and Productivity Center (BPVP) in Banyuwangi, Noor highlighted that language proficiency is vital for successful adaptation to the Japanese work environment and lifestyle.

At the BPVP Muncar facility, 284 participants are currently enrolled in various vocational programs, including tourism, welding, barista training, food processing, and hydroponic agriculture. A specific internship program in collaboration with IM Japan has selected 84 participants from an initial pool of 250. These trainees undergo two months of preparation in Banyuwangi before moving to a secondary training phase in Bekasi prior to their departure for Japan.

Local officials noted that Banyuwangi serves as a significant hub for migrant worker placement. In 2026, the BPVP Banyuwangi reported that 1,720 alumni successfully entered the workforce through industry employment or entrepreneurship.
