Bapanas confirms premium rice stocks remain stable in traditional markets

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has confirmed that premium rice stocks remain sufficient in traditional markets, despite reported shortages and price fluctuations in modern retail outlets.

The supply issues in modern retail are largely attributed to the recent discovery of 25 fortified rice brands that failed to meet labeling and nutritional standards. These producers have been ordered to cease production and withdraw their products from circulation. Bapanas officials also noted that thin profit margins for producers supplying modern retail chains may further impact availability in those specific channels.

While some traditional traders have reported price increases of approximately Rp2,000 per kilogram for premium rice, wholesale prices at the Cipinang Rice Induk Market remain within the government-mandated maximum retail price (HET) of Rp14,900 per kg for Zone I. Medium rice prices have remained relatively stable.
