BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir consecrated near Paris
The BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Mandir, the first traditional Hindu temple of its kind in France, has been officially consecrated in Bussy-Saint-Georges, near Paris. The ceremony, led by spiritual leader Mahant Swami Maharaj, drew thousands of devotees from over 40 countries.
Designed according to ancient Vedic architectural traditions and incorporating modern French engineering, the complex covers approximately 5,000 square meters. It features stone-carved domes and spires reaching 24 meters in height. The site includes a traditional temple on the upper level and a Haveli cultural center on the lower level.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the event via video message, describing the temple as a “new milestone” in India-France cultural relations and a symbol of the philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family). He noted that the temple enhances France's cultural diversity and strengthens bilateral ties.
