Barış Çakır calls for participatory legislation management in trade

Barış Çakır, Deputy General Manager of Asset GLI and Customs Consultant, has advocated for a ‘participatory legislation management’ approach to enhance global trade competitiveness. He noted that international competition is increasingly shaped by regulatory systems rather than just products and prices.

Çakır emphasized that foreign trade regulations significantly impact corporate cost structures and investment decisions. He argued that involving industry representatives—such as exporters, chambers of commerce, sectoral associations, logistics firms, and customs consultants—in the drafting process would reduce operational difficulties and implementation errors.

Furthermore, Çakır highlighted that regulations implemented without sufficient consultation can create additional costs and delays, directly affecting a firm's international competitiveness. He suggested that the Ministry of Trade establish regular stakeholder participation mechanisms and more widely utilize regulatory impact analyses to better predict economic and operational outcomes.
