Bar Association Presidents convene in Hermoupolis for judicial assembly

The Assembly of Presidents of the Bar Associations of Greece is convening in Hermoupolis, Syros, for a three-day session involving high-ranking judicial and political figures. The event includes Justice Minister George Floridis, Deputy Minister Ioannis Bougas, and representatives from the Supreme Court and the Audit Court.

During the proceedings, Andreas Koutsolambros, President of the Assembly, expressed dissatisfaction with recent government announcements, describing them as “fragmentary” and “insufficient” to address the legal profession's systemic issues. Key demands from the legal community include the abolition or reduction of VAT on judicial services, the removal of unfair presumptive taxation for professionals, and the implementation of the €25,000 VAT exemption threshold.

Other agenda items include the modernization of the Lawyers' Code, discussions on the Land Registry, and addressing the housing needs of judicial services in Syros. The assembly serves as a major institutional gathering for the Greek legal and judicial sectors.
