Bar calendar highlights historical and local milestones

The Bar calendar for September 6 highlights several historical and local milestones in Montenegro.

Historical events noted include the 1455 alliance signed at Vranjina with the Venetians due to Ottoman pressure, and the 1669 conclusion of the Cretan War between the Republic of Venice and the Ottoman Empire. The calendar also commemorates the 1861 birth of Dr. Novica Kovačević Graovski, a prominent physician and the first chief of military sanitation in Montenegro.

In more recent history, the 1985 archaeological research at the Ratac Madonna Abbey complex, conducted by the Zavičajni muzej iz Bara, is noted. The year 2000 marked the founding of the “Baranka” women’s basketball club, and 2019 saw the inaugural Grape Festival in Virpazar, organized by the Bar Tourist Organization in collaboration with MZ Crmnica.
