Castellón trial reveals coerced false testimonies in Bar España hoax
During a trial in Castellón, Spain, several witnesses who were minors at the time of the original allegations testified that they were coerced and threatened into making false claims regarding alleged child abuse at Bar España. The witnesses stated that the late Reinaldo Colás, identified by prosecutors as the architect of the hoax, dictated their statements and threatened them with consequences such as being separated from their families if they did not comply.
High-profile figures, including former Valencian Minister of Justice Gabriela Bravo and former President of the Generalitat Francisco Camps, also testified as victims of the defamation. Bravo described the impact on her professional reputation as a prosecutor and politician, while Camps characterized the campaign as a “pandemic of horror and persecution” designed to use public figures to amplify the reach of the falsehoods.
The prosecution is seeking prison sentences of up to 58.5 years for some of the defendants, along with compensation of up to 1.3 million euros for those harmed by the slander and libel.
