Bar-Ilan University researchers develop scalable quantum chip fabrication

Roy Zektzer and his research group at Bar-Ilan University are working to overcome scalability challenges in quantum technology by integrating atoms and photonic chips onto a single platform. The team has developed a batch fabrication method designed to transform manually assembled laboratory prototypes into devices compatible with standard semiconductor manufacturing processes.

This approach aims to move quantum systems away from one-off, painstaking assembly toward large-scale production. By bridging atomic physics with integrated photonics, the research seeks to create hybrid nanophotonic platforms for applications in quantum metrology, communication, and computation. Additionally, Zektzer’s previous work demonstrated the possibility of operating quantum photonic interfaces at room temperature, addressing a major hurdle where most systems currently require temperatures near absolute zero.
