Italian military helicopter crashes in Bosnia, killing four FAST-MOVING

An Italian CH-47 Chinook military helicopter crashed near the village of Gorice in the Brčko district of Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 29, 2026. The aircraft was participating in a routine training mission as part of the European Union Force (EUFOR) Althea operation.

The Italian Ministry of Defense confirmed that four people died in the accident: two soldiers from the Italian Army, Simone Ruggia and Claudio Marchesi, and two members of the Italian Red Cross Voluntary Military Corps, Lieutenant Franco Adriano Zecchillo and Sergeant Laura Procacci. Eleven other individuals were injured in the crash, with all reported to be in stable condition. An Italian medical team was dispatched to provide additional support to the wounded.

EUFOR has launched a full and thorough investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Local authorities, including the Mayor of Brčko, Siniša Milić, confirmed that no civilian infrastructure, property, or vehicles were damaged, and no civilians were injured during the incident. Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto traveled to Bosnia to visit the injured personnel in hospitals located in Brčko and Tuzla.
