Bar, Montenegro Opens 39th Barski Ljetopis Festival with 'Cigani lete u nebo' Musical

The 39th edition of the international Barski Ljetopis festival opened on the Summer Stage of the House of Culture in Bar, Montenegro. The ceremony was led by municipal president Dušan Raičević, who emphasized the festival’s role in promoting cultural diversity, heritage and openness.

The opening performance featured the long‑running musical *Cigani lete u nebo* by the Theatre on Terazije, a production that has been staged for over two decades, reaching more than 200,000 viewers and celebrating its 400th performance this year. The play, based on Maxim Gorky’s story, portrays the love of Roma girl Rada and horse‑thief Lojko Zobar and explores themes of freedom, pride and sacrifice.

Raičević pledged continued municipal support for the festival, local artists and youth creators, underscoring culture as an investment in the community’s vitality.
