Bar Owner William Kramer Oliveira Killed in Manaus Shooting After Intervening in Dispute
William Kramer Oliveira, a 32‑year‑old bar owner in Manaus, was fatally shot on the night of 15 March while attempting to separate a couple’s argument on a street outside his establishment in the Cidade Nova neighbourhood. Witnesses say a military police officer, who was arguing with his own wife nearby, confronted Oliveira. After Oliveira intervened, the officer fired several rounds, striking Oliveira five times. He was taken alive to a hospital, where he later died.
The incident is under investigation by authorities to determine the officer’s conduct and the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Oliveira’s family described him as a hardworking, non‑violent person who often tried to defuse conflicts.
The case has drawn local attention to concerns about police use of force in Brazil’s Amazon region.
