Barış Özbay, a 25-year-old man living in Antakya, Hatay, has gained public attention for his refusal of medical treatment and his struggle with digital addiction following the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes. After losing his home and relatives in the disaster, Özbay abandoned his university education and became heavily reliant on computers and mobile phones.
Following a three-month hospital treatment period, Özbay has returned to his home in the Gazi neighborhood with his 52-year-old mother, Semra Özbay. However, reports indicate he has resumed his previous habits, including discontinuing certain medications and spending most of his time on digital devices. He expressed contentment with his current lifestyle, stating, “I don’t want anything, I am happy,” and noted that if his phone is unavailable, he simply watches the wall.
