Barabanki court sentences two to 10 years for 2017 drug trafficking

A court in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, has sentenced two individuals, identified as Shakeel and Rampyari, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The sentencing follows a 2017 drug trafficking case involving the seizure of 340 grams of heroin and 160 grams of ganja.

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Lucknow Zonal Unit recovered the contraband from black bags at the Barabanki Railway Station on May 27, 2017. The two accused were traveling on the Avadh Assam Express when the seizure occurred. Investigations determined that the drugs had been transported from Dimapur, Nagaland, to Barabanki.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge delivered the verdict on October 19. The NCB stated the conviction reaffirms its commitment to a zero-tolerance approach toward drug trafficking.
