Obama family mourns death of longtime pet Sunny
Former U.S. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama announced the death of their family dog, Sunny, a Portuguese Water Dog who passed away at the age of 13. The news was shared via social media posts on Instagram and X.
Sunny joined the Obama family in 2013 during their second term in the White House. She was known for her high energy and athletic nature, often chasing squirrels and birds across the South Lawn. Obama described her as a “force of nature” and a “cherished member of our family.”
The dog was noted for several unique personality traits, including a preference for people over other dogs and a dislike of getting wet despite her breed. She was also known to be fiercely protective of the family’s first dog, Bo, who passed away from cancer in 2021. The Obamas expressed that they will miss her terribly and imagined her reunited with Bo.
