Barack Obama launches ad campaign for Mississippi Senate candidate Scott Colom
Former President Barack Obama has released a 30-second advertisement supporting Democratic Senate candidate Scott Colom in Mississippi. The ad, which will run on digital and radio platforms statewide, is part of a seven-figure media campaign aimed at boosting Colom’s prospects in the deep red state.
In the advertisement, Obama urges voters to seek change and supports Colom, citing his experience as a district attorney prosecuting violent crimes and fighting corruption. Colom is challenging Republican incumbent Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith. While Colom is considered an underdog, national Democrats have targeted the race to increase turnout among the state’s large Black population.
Colom has received support from several prominent Democrats, including Senator Raphael Warnock, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Angela Alsobrooks, and Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has also identified Mississippi as a target for the Democratic Party.
