Barahona initiatives focus on land rights and financial inclusion

In Barahona, Dominican Republic, the Batista Luperón succession has organized a press conference and a peaceful vigil scheduled for Monday, October 26. The family is demanding that the Dominican state provide payment for land they claim belongs to them. The event will take place at the Barahona Black Water Plant from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., where they intend to publicly present their claims and request a definitive response from government authorities.

Separately, authorities have announced a financial inclusion initiative titled ‘Bancarizar es Patria’ (Banking is Fatherland). A specialized session will be held on November 14 at the UASD Barahona campus to provide savings accounts to citizens currently without access to banking services. The program, supported by the Institute for the Development of the South (INDESUR) and Banco de Reservas, aims to promote socioeconomic development and democratize credit access in the region.
