Barahona port development moves forward with cruise terminal planned for 2027
Jean Luis Rodríguez, executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM), inspected ongoing works at the Barahona port alongside provincial officials, including Governor Oneida Féliz and mayor Francisco Acosta. The visit reviewed the construction of a new terminal that is deemed strategic for the southern region’s economic and commercial growth.
Rodríguez announced that the first cruise ship is expected to dock at Barahona in 2027, once the terminal is completed. The project is positioned as a catalyst for tourism, investment, job creation and sustainable development in the Enriquillo region. An inter‑institutional working group was also established to address environmental concerns linked to truck traffic and mining activities along the Barahona waterfront.
The coordinated effort underscores the government’s commitment to modernizing maritime infrastructure and expanding the Dominican Republic’s tourism offerings.
