Barakaldo approves 150.8 million euro municipal budget for 2026
The Barakaldo City Council has officially approved its municipal budget for the 2026 fiscal year, totaling 150,814,642.54 euros. This represents an increase of 10.5 million euros compared to the previous year.
The new financial framework aims to strengthen social policies and strategic areas, including Social Action, Equality, Youth, and Barakaldo Kirolak. Specific planned investments include reinforcing the Home Help Service, extending Topalekus operating hours to Saturdays, installing a second Inclusive Changer, improving accessibility and parking, and launching the Urban Bizi Lab project.
During the plenary session, the council rejected allegations from neighborhood festival commissions and the LAB union. Regarding festival funding, the government maintained that municipal support focuses on logistics such as security and cleaning rather than direct subsidies. The council also stated that labor claims from the union should be addressed through established negotiation tables.
