Baranja hosts 71st World Plowing Championship
The 71st World Plowing Championship is currently taking place in the Baranja region of Croatia, specifically at the Mitrovac agricultural estate in Grabovac. The event has gathered more than 50 competitors representing 25 to 26 countries from five continents.
During the opening ceremony, Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture Davor Vlajčić emphasized the potential of the Slavonia region and the importance of integrating new technologies into soil cultivation to combat climate extremes. Lars Gammelvind, President of the World Plowing Organization (WPO), officially opened the competition, which includes the unveiling of a peace monument under the motto ‘plow the soil in peace.’
The championship features two plowing disciplines and is accompanied by an exhibition of agricultural machinery. Siniša Hrgović, the coach of the Croatian national team, noted that competitors prepared on nearly 400 plots to adapt to local conditions and challenging weather.
