Barantin aims to ease Indonesian exports through system transformation
Abdul Kadir Karding, Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), has called for a total transformation of the national quarantine system to facilitate easier access for Indonesian products in international markets. Speaking at the 2026 National Coordination Meeting in Bekasi, West Java, Karding emphasized that the agency must evolve beyond conventional monitoring at entry and exit points to address complex global trade dynamics, increased mobility of goods and people, and climate change.
Karding stated that Barantin’s mission is to protect public health, natural resources, and food security while simultaneously acting as a facilitator for agricultural, fishery, and forestry exports. To achieve this, the agency aims to implement economic diplomacy through improved traceability, official certification, and technical communication with export destination countries.
The agency’s strategic agenda includes strengthening integrated biosecurity, developing digital ecosystems, revitalizing laboratories to meet international standards, and enhancing human resource competence. Digitalization is highlighted as a key component to ensure quarantine services are fast, accurate, and transparently integrated with global trade systems.
