Barau Jibrin dismisses aide over social media posts

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has dismissed his Special Legislative Assistant, Umar Alhassan, also known as King Indara, effective September 18, 2026. The dismissal follows social media posts by Alhassan directed at Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

In a statement released by Special Assistant Shitu Madaki Kunchi, Barau cited “indiscipline and disrespect” as the reasons for the removal. The statement noted that Alhassan’s posts, which included the phrase “Abba Must Go,” were inconsistent with the standards of his office and the principles of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alhassan, a Kano-based TikToker, had also posted on Facebook that Kano belongs to Kwankwaso, though he maintained his membership in the APC. Senator Barau, who represents Kano North, reaffirmed his commitment to the ruling party.
