Barbados issues flood and high-surf warnings for tropical wave

The Barbados Meteorological Services has issued a small-craft and high-surf warning, along with a flash-flood watch, as a strong tropical wave approaches the island. The system is expected to affect Barbados from Friday night into Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Forecasts indicate the wave will bring gusty winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall, with accumulations between 25 and 50 millimetres possible in some areas. The flash-flood watch warns of potential flooding in low-lying areas, soil erosion, and water accumulation on roads, which could lead to commuting delays.

While the primary tropical wave is expected to pass north of the island, a second tropical wave in the Eastern Atlantic is also being monitored, though it currently shows no significant expected impact on Barbados.
