Barbados Tridents defeat Saint Lucia Kings as CPL honors Sir Garfield Sobers

The Barbados Tridents ended a four-game losing streak with an eight-wicket victory over the Saint Lucia Kings at Kensington Oval in the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL). After the Kings reached 51 for 1 during the PowerPlay, Mujeeb Ur Rahman dismissed Kamil Pooran for 37, leading to a middle-order collapse. Mujeeb finished with figures of 3 for 22, while Daniel Sams contributed 2 for 20. The Kings finished with a total of 138 for 6.

In league news, the CPL has announced that the trophy for its Hall of Fame inductees will be named the Sir Garry Sobers Award. This honors the legendary West Indies all-rounder. The inaugural Hall of Fame class includes Dwayne Bravo and Ian Bishop. The award will be presented for the first time at a gala dinner on September 15, 2026, in Barbados, which also supports the Sir Clive Lloyd Healthcare Foundation’s prostate cancer awareness initiatives.
