Barbadás ceiling collapse narrowly misses elderly resident

An elderly woman narrowly escaped death on Tuesday in A Valenzá, Barbadás, after the ceiling of her fifth-floor apartment on Severo Ochoa Street collapsed. The resident was alerted by the sound of creaking beams and decided to leave her home to seek assistance from neighbors.

Moments after she exited the apartment, the entire structure, including the false ceiling and its supporting beams, collapsed. Emergency services from Barbadás and local police attended the scene, noting that the resident would likely have been killed had she remained inside. The apartment has been declared uninhabitable, and the woman was temporarily relocated to a neighbor's home until family members could arrive to care for her.
