Barbara Fučec Borović named Exemplary Croatian Rural Woman

Barbara Fučec Borović, an agronomist from Ivanovec, has been named the ‘Exemplary Croatian Rural Woman’ for 2026 at the 26th annual selection held in Ilok. The competition featured 20 contestants representing all Croatian counties.

Fučec Borović manages a family farm covering approximately 100 hectares, alongside her own 13-hectare agricultural holdings. Her production includes wheat, corn, tritikale, buckwheat, and pumpkin, the latter of which is processed into oil. The farm also maintains around 160 livestock animals, producing over 550,000 liters of milk annually using robotic milking systems. She is also recognized for producing award-winning cheeses and breeding the indigenous Međimurje dog breed, the Međija.

Beyond farming, she serves as the secretary of the Association of Young Producers of Međimurje and is active in the volunteer fire department. During the ceremony, she emphasized the importance of young people returning to rural areas to preserve healthy food production and community traditions.
