Barbara Kopple to Receive Women Trailblazers Award at Florence’s Festival dei Popoli

American documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple, a two‑time Oscar winner for Harlan County, USA (1976) and American Dream (1990), will be a special guest at the 67th Festival dei Popoli in Florence. The international documentary festival runs from 31 October to 8 November, and on 3 November Kopple will present her debut film at Cinema La Compagnia and receive the Women Trailblazers in Documentary Cinema prize from the Calliope Arts Foundation.

Kopple’s career has focused on social‑justice topics such as labor rights, freedom of expression, transgender acceptance and anti‑war activism. The award ceremony highlights her pioneering role as the first woman to win two Oscars for best documentary and celebrates her contributions to documentary cinema worldwide.
