Barbara Mróz-Gorgoń resigns amid AI report scandal
Barbara Mróz-Gorgoń, the Government Plenipotentiary for Poland Brand Promotion, has resigned from her position following a scandal involving a report titled ‘Polaków portret własny’ (A Portrait of Poles). The document, which cost approximately 200,000 PLN, faced intense criticism for containing numerous factual errors, such as describing Katowice as being in the ‘northern center’ of Poland and misstating the number of Polish Nobel laureates.
Analysts and experts alleged that the report was largely generated using artificial intelligence, with some estimates suggesting up to 90 percent of the text showed AI characteristics. Mróz-Gorgoń defended the work as a ‘working progress’ and admitted that AI was used for tasks like transcription and summarization, though she maintained the research followed social science principles. She cited ‘unimaginable levels of hate’ as a primary reason for her resignation.
The Ministry of Sport and Tourism has denied that the report was part of any official order or contract with the ministry. In response to the controversy, the Law and Justice party has announced intentions to file notifications with the Central Anticorruption Bureau (CBA) and the prosecutor's office to investigate the matter.
