Barbara Mróz-Gorgoń resigns amid AI report scandal

Barbara Mróz-Gorgoń has resigned from her position as the Government Plenipotentiary for the Promotion of the Polish Brand after serving for less than a month. Her resignation follows a controversy involving a 200,000 PLN report titled ‘Polaków portret własny’ (A Self-Portrait of Poles), prepared by the Marka Polska Think Tank.

The report has faced intense criticism for containing significant errors, inconsistencies, and evidence of being generated by artificial intelligence without sufficient human oversight. While Mróz-Gorgoń acknowledged the team used AI, she cited ‘unimaginable levels of hate’ as the primary reason for her departure.

The scandal has triggered broader academic and legal scrutiny. Professor Radosław Zenderowski has publicly challenged her academic titles, and academic leaders have raised concerns regarding the credibility of Polish science and the use of public funds. Additionally, MP Paweł Jabłoński has filed a notification with the prosecutor's office, requesting the urgent seizure of hard drives and computers at the Ministry of Sport and Tourism to investigate potential falsification of documents and the creation of false evidence.
