Barbara Tokarska, Warsaw Uprising medic, dies at 102

Barbara Tokarska, a veteran medic of the Warsaw Uprising, has passed away at the age of 102. Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski confirmed her death, praising her as a brave and wise individual.

During the 1944 uprising, Tokarska served as a medic within the Baszta Regiment in the Mokotów district. Her service included providing aid under fire at medical points on Czerniakowska and Szustra streets, as well as serving in the Alkazar Redoubt. She recounted being wounded by shrapnel during a German tank attack on August 15, 1944.

Following the war, Tokarska pursued an academic career, earning a Master's degree in economics from the Academy of Commerce in Poznań and a doctorate from the Economic Academy in Wrocław. Her contributions and service were recognized with numerous honors, including the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Pro Bono Poloniae medal, the Home Army Cross, and the Warsaw Uprising Cross.
