Barbara Zupančič succeeds Miha Lobnik as Equality Ombudsman

Barbara Zupančič has taken over the role of Equality Ombudsman in Slovenia, succeeding Miha Lobnik after his ten-year tenure. Zupančič, who has dedicated over 25 years of her professional life to social inclusion and equal opportunities, officially begins her mandate on Monday.

In her inaugural remarks, Zupančič emphasized the importance of institutional independence as the foundation for public trust. She expressed a commitment to removing barriers to employment and social participation, noting that the institution must listen to individuals' life circumstances and ensure their voices reach decision-makers.

Prior to the transition, outgoing Ombudsman Miha Lobnik hosted an international conference in Ljubljana regarding the challenges of anti-discrimination protection in Europe. The event featured representatives from the European Union and Equinet, as well as Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar, to discuss strengthening equality institutions.
