Barbers Who Care provides free haircuts for West Philly students

Hundreds of students in Philadelphia received free haircuts and grooming services ahead of the new school year during an annual event held at the West Philadelphia YMCA on August 23, 2026. The initiative was organized by Barbers Who Care, a local group dedicated to improving youth self-esteem through grooming.

Approximately 70 to 80 barbers and stylists from five different states, including volunteers from the Junior Beauty Academy, participated in the event. In addition to haircuts and braids, students were provided with school supplies, backpacks, books, and various health resources to help alleviate the rising costs of back-to-school preparations.

Founder Kenny Duncan noted that the event aims to provide mentorship and confidence to children in his community. Participants highlighted the importance of the service as families face increasing expenses for school-related necessities.
