Barbora Macková resigns as Czech Republic chief hygienist

Barbora Macková will step down from her position as the Czech Republic's chief hygienist and director of the public health protection and support section on September 2. According to the Ministry of Health, Macková resigned of her own volition.

While she is leaving the role of chief hygienist, she will continue to serve as the director of the National Institute of Public Health (SZÚ). The Ministry of Health stated that this will allow her to focus fully on the management and development of the institute.

In her resignation, Macková cited a lack of support for her efforts to financially and personally stabilize the hygiene service system. She noted that previous government promises regarding public health reforms were not fulfilled and that the current leadership holds different views on the matter.

Matyáš Fošum, the director of the Ministry of Health's public health protection department, will serve as the interim chief hygienist until a permanent successor is chosen through a selection process.
