Barcelona allocates 100 million euros for school climate adaptation

Barcelona has launched a structural policy to adapt its public schools to climate change, allocating 100 million euros to upgrade 170 institutions by 2029. The initiative aims to improve climate resilience for over 55,000 students through enhancements in air conditioning, ventilation, energy efficiency, and renewable energy production.

A notable aspect of the funding model is the reinvestment of tourism tax revenue. The city is utilizing resources generated by the tourism economy—which contributes to urban pressure—to finance the adaptation of public buildings and improve the quality of life for local residents.
