Barcelona and Montblanc municipalities acquire historic buildings for public use
The Barcelona City Council is finalising the allocation of six apartments in the Casa Orsola building on the Eixample. The social‑rental units, ranging from 46 to 72 m² and priced between €600 and €900, will be assigned to residents of the Nova Esquerra de l’Eixample, Sant Antoni and Antiga Esquerra de l’Eixample neighbourhoods, to people under 35, and two will be awarded by lottery. The remaining apartments in the building are already occupied or designated for a third‑sector entity.
The Montblanc Town Council has completed the purchase of the Cal Masalles property for a total of €225 000 to recover a section of the town’s medieval wall. The transaction was funded by a €113 000 grant from the Tarragona provincial council and €102 000 from an extraordinary income linked to a local industrial expansion. Demolition of the building will begin soon, aiming to expose the wall near the Portal de Sant Francesc before the early‑September festivals.
