Barcelona and Salta implement digital and AI tools for public administration

Public administrations in Barcelona and Salta are implementing digital transformation initiatives to enhance efficiency through advanced technology.

In Barcelona, the City Council has selected Atos to evolve the digital support services used by municipal employees. The project aims to create a more agile and accessible service model by introducing self-service mechanisms, automated task management, and the use of generative artificial intelligence to facilitate information access and knowledge management.

In Salta, the government has introduced artificial intelligence agents designed to accelerate administrative processes. According to Martín Güemes, Secretary of Modernization and Public Services, these tools have already significantly reduced processing times; for instance, document preparation for public procurement was reduced from six hours to one, and documentation analysis dropped from eight hours to 1.5 hours. The initiative also aims to reduce environmental impact by decreasing paper usage, as the state currently manages approximately 375,000 files and uses 11 million sheets of paper annually.
