Barcelona cultural landmarks and Gothic Quarter art events
Barcelona's historic districts and architectural landmarks continue to serve as major cultural hubs. In the Gothic Quarter, the fifth edition of the ‘Escaparates Artísticos’ event runs from October 6 to 31. Organized by the Hänsel* i Gretel* platform, the initiative transforms approximately forty local shops into open-air galleries, blending commerce with art by featuring works from various creators in storefront displays.
The Gothic Quarter also remains a primary destination for historical exploration, anchored by the Cathedral of Barcelona. The cathedral features significant Catalan Gothic elements, including its cloister, the crypt of Saint Eulalia, and the Gothic choir. Other notable sites in the area include Plaça del Rei, the Temple of Augustus, and the Jewish Quarter (El Call).
In the Eixample district, the Casa de les Punxes (also known as Casa Terradas) stands as a prominent example of Catalan Modernism. Designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch in the early 20th century, the building is characterized by its castle-like appearance, pointed towers, and symbolic decorations related to the legend of Saint George.
