Barcelona: Eight arrested after riots during Diada protests

Eight people have been arrested for public disorder following riots in central Barcelona during Diada celebrations. The disturbances occurred as various groups, including anti-fascist and pro-independence demonstrators, gathered in the city.

Clashes intensified around 8:00 PM near Passeig de Sant Joan and Ronda de Sant Pere, where protesters burned several containers and threw objects at the Mossos d'Esquadra. The unrest spread toward the Arc de Triomf, where hooded individuals reportedly set fire to containers and threw fences into the flames.

Police intervention was required to disperse crowds and allow the Barcelona Fire Department to access and extinguish the fires. The Mossos d'Esquadra used batons to break up concentrations of protesters after objects were thrown at police lines. The incidents also involved clashes near the intersection of Passeig de Sant Joan and Ausiàs March.
