Barcelona explores its theatrical history and local venues

Barcelona is celebrating its rich theatrical heritage through various exhibitions and local venues. The exhibition ‘Barcelona, ciutat i teatre’ is currently on display at the Born cultural center, part of the Museum of the History of Barcelona. Curated by architects Antoni Ramon Graells and Ivan Alcázar Serrat, the show explores four centuries of the city's relationship between theatrical spaces and urban landscapes, tracing back to 1579 when the Hospital de la Santa Creu was granted the privilege to manage city performances.

In the Gràcia district, the local theatre scene remains a vital part of the community. Key venues include the Teatre Lliure de Gràcia, a cornerstone of contemporary Catalan theatre founded in 1976, and Teatreneu, which has operated as a multi-room space since 2004 offering diverse programming. Additionally, La Badabadoc Teatre continues to provide proximity-based performances focusing on social issues such as immigration and inequality.
