Barcelona faces 27 million euro cost from heavy rainfall
Heavy rainfall in Barcelona has resulted in approximately 27 million euros in costs for cleaning and infrastructure repairs. Following intense storms that dropped 280 liters per square meter in just four days, the Barcelona City Council has allocated 2 million euros for cleaning, 20 million euros for stabilizing slopes and repairing landslides, and 5 million euros for strategic works to mitigate future impacts.
Deputy Mayor Laia Bonet identified 16 priority emergency actions to address roughly one hundred incidents. Key repairs include the Pont de Can Balasc and the stabilization of a slope at Font del Gos, where some residents remain displaced. Affected districts include Sarrià–Sant Gervasi, Horta–Guinardó, Nou Barris, Sants–Montjuïc, Gràcia, and Les Corts.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) has maintained weather alerts due to the risk of torrential rain and high accumulated volumes. While the Catalan Water Agency has ruled out dangerous river rises or major flooding in the hydrological network, authorities remain on alert for short-term intense rainfall that could cause urban flooding.
