Barcelona marks five years since Messi exit with domestic titles and new signings

Five years after Lionel Messi left FC Barcelona on 5 August 2021, the club has added seven domestic trophies to its cabinet – three La Liga crowns, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Supercopa titles – but still has not reclaimed the Champions League, which it last won in 2015.

The 2022/23 season, overseen by former player‑coach Xavi Hernández, saw Barcelona clinch the league with goalkeeper Marc‑André ter Stegen and striker Robert Lewandowski, the latter finishing as top scorer with 23 goals. In the 2024/25 campaign, Brazilian forward Raphinha emerged as the standout player, while teenage winger Lamine Yamal helped secure another league triumph.

Looking ahead, Barcelona announced three new reinforcements for the upcoming season, the headline signing being English winger Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for a reported €80 million.
