Barcelona officials demand safety barriers for Metro stations

Daniel Sirera, president of the Municipal Group of the People's Party (PP) in Barcelona, has called on Mayor Jaume Collboni to implement safety barriers on Barcelona Metro platforms. The request specifically targets stations with high passenger volume or frequent incidents involving falls or track access.

Sirera noted that while the municipal government accepted a PP proposal in November 2025 to study the implementation of these protection systems, no progress has been made in the nine months since. He pointed out that such barriers already exist on lines L9 and L10, where platform doors only open when a train is stopped, and urged the extension of this technology to the rest of the network to prioritize user safety.
