Spanish authorities sanction two law enforcement officers in separate incidents

The Spanish Supreme Court has upheld a disciplinary sanction against a Civil Guard officer stationed at the Can Sifre barracks in Ibiza. The officer received 20 days of suspension from work and pay after renting his assigned official room to a family of tourists. The incident was discovered during a corps celebration when an unknown man, accompanied by two minors, attended the event and inquired about purchasing drugs. The family reportedly fled the military facility without returning the keys to the room or the main entrance.

In Barcelona, the City Council has sanctioned a member of the Guàrdia Urbana with 24 days of suspension from work and pay. The disciplinary action follows a July incident where the officer refused to speak Catalan with a citizen during a routine check. The officer allegedly used derogatory language, describing the requirement to speak Catalan as “fascist.” The sanction was prompted by a formal complaint from Plataforma per la Llengua, which cited violations of linguistic rights and municipal regulations regarding public service communication.
