Barcelona prosecutors dismiss hate speech probe into Pilar Rahola

The Barcelona Prosecutor's Office has dismissed an investigation into journalist Pilar Rahola regarding allegations of inciting hatred against the Palestinian population. The case was initiated following a complaint by two members of the Socialist Youth Organization (OJS), who accused Rahola of using her media presence to justify or trivialize actions taken by Israel in the Middle East.

The Hate Crimes Prosecutor's Office reviewed Rahola's public statements and concluded that they did not contain direct calls for acts against Palestinians, nor did they incite discriminatory or violent behavior. The prosecution noted that criminal law is not intended to judge the correctness or desirability of an expression, but rather its legality, stating that “not everything that is unacceptable is a crime.”

Rahola's defense maintained that her comments regarding the Middle East conflict fall under the legitimate exercise of freedom of expression.
