Barcelona Confirms Offer for Atlético's Julián Álvarez
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has confirmed that the club has made an official bid for Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez and that the offer remains valid. Laporta said the proposal will stay on the table for as long as the club deems necessary and stressed Barcelona’s respect for Atlético while urging the Madrid side to drop what he called “inflexible” opposition.
Álvarez publicly indicated his desire to leave Atlético after Argentina’s World Cup win over Austria, stating he wants to “fulfil his dream.” Atlético rejected a €150 million offer from Real Madrid and warned that Álvarez’s €500 million release clause makes a sale unlikely. The club has filed complaints with FIFA and the Spanish federation, accusing Barcelona of tapping up the player.
Barcelona view Álvarez as their priority target to replace departing forward Robert Lewandowski, describing him as the ideal striker to lead their attack in the coming years.
